Here at Kaplocke British Shorthairs / Longhairs & Scottish Shorthairs, breeding beautiful cats is only part of what we do. Health, welfare and responsible breeding will always come first. ❤️🐾

Genetic testing is an important part of our breeding program. It gives us valuable information about the cats we are breeding from and helps us make informed, responsible decisions for future generations.

For me, breeding isn’t simply about producing kittens. It’s about doing everything within my power to protect the health and future of the bloodlines I have worked so hard to build.

Every test, every veterinary check and every decision behind the scenes matters. There is a lot that goes into responsible breeding that people don’t always see — but our kittens deserve that commitment before they are even born.

At Kaplocke, I want families to know that when they welcome one of my babies into their home, years of love, knowledge, careful planning and dedication stand behind that little kitten. 🐱❤️

Scottish Shorthairs are full of personality! Here are some fun facts about these adorable cats:

* 🐱 Not all Scottish kittens have folded ears. Kittens are born with straight ears. If they carry the folded-ear gene, their ears usually begin to fold at around 3–4 weeks of age. Those that keep straight ears are known as Scottish Shorthairs (or Scottish Straights in some registries).
* 💕 They’re famous for their sweet nature. Scottish Shorthairs are generally affectionate, gentle, and enjoy being close to their families without being overly demanding.
* 🧸 They stay playful well into adulthood. Many love chasing feather wands, batting balls around, and solving puzzle toys even as mature cats.
* 🛋️ They’re known for hilarious sitting positions. Some like to sit upright like little people (“the Buddha sit”) or stretch out flat on their backs.
* 🧠 They’re clever and observant. They quickly learn household routines and often greet their owners at the door.
* 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Excellent family cats. They usually get along well with children, respectful dogs, and other cats when introduced properly.
* 🐾 Quiet but communicative. Rather than loud meows, they often have soft, sweet voices and communicate with gentle chirps and trills.
* 🎨 They come in many colours and patterns. Blue (grey) is the classic look, but Scottish Shorthairs can also be cream, black, white, red, silver, golden, tabby, bi-colour, colourpoint, and many more.
* 🐭 Natural hunters. Even indoor Scottish Shorthairs often enjoy stalking toys and practicing their pouncing skills.
* ❤️ They love routine. These cats often thrive on predictable feeding times, familiar surroundings, and spending time with their favourite people.
* 😺 Big round eyes are part of their charm. Their large, expressive eyes and rounded faces give them the teddy-bear look that so many people adore.
* 🌍 They originated in Scotland. The breed traces back to a white farm cat named Susie, discovered in Scotland in 1961. She became the foundation of the modern Scottish breed.

One especially interesting fact: responsible breeders never mate two folded-ear cats together. Breeding a Fold to a Scottish Shorthair (straight-eared) helps reduce the risk of inherited skeletal problems associated with the fold gene.

Dynamik Enchanted Melody hit the show bench after having a break to have kittens who also attended the show and did very well.😻❤️ she’s now a Gold Champion.

Wonderful results yesterday for my little show team 3 Scottish shorthair mother Melody, daughter strawberry creme and son creme Brûlée and British shorthair Ice Cool .Creme Brûlée winning best kitten in ring 2 and reserve supreme champion in ring 2 . Ice cool received judges choice Award from Pamela Lanigan Awaiting official results I will post as soon as I get them 😊
