Fire's "Breakfast Buffet" cherubs were two weeks yesterday...that's right TWO weeks already! 😲🫣

The cherubs had their first deworming and I reduced their bedding by half and added "toilets" to the whelping box. I also added a baby mobile for them to start interacting with.

All their eyes and ears are open and they're starting to totter around. This is when they'll start moving away from their bed to go to the toilet.

Little Pancake (still looking for her furever humans) investigated the mobile while her siblings slept 😴 πŸ’€

Unfortunately we had a cow with a broken leg. We suspect she inadvertently got tangled up in a bull fight and the best outcome for her was to be euthanised. We therefore turned her into dog meat.

Our dogs will enjoy the meat, and some bones; I will make bone broth for us and the dogs; and I have offal and meat for the puppies.

We always mince some meat to start young puppies...Marc minced 31kg of meat yesterday πŸ‚πŸΆπŸΆ

Bone broth is a powerhouse food! It is nutrient dense and is good for every system of our, and our dogs bodies.

A little update for you all.

We appreciate how excited you are to be welcoming a puppy into your lives shortly. We also know how exciting it is to get regular photos. However, we're asking for some grace and patience over the next few weeks.

I, Suzie, am having a partial knee replacement on Tuesday. Therefore, Mr ForCows, Marc, is going to be-
β™‘ My carer
β™‘ Looking after the puppies
β™‘ Looking after our cats
β™‘ Looking after the other dogs
β™‘ Managing our business and all of it's enterprises
β™‘ My Chauffeur
β™‘ Cleaner
β™‘ Chef
Among myriad other hats he's going to be wearing while I'm recovering.

I know he will try his best to get photos and updates...but he's going to be busy!

For your consideration- just getting all the puppies outside is going to take 9 trips!

Fire's "Breakfast Buffet" bubbas are two weeks old tomorrow.

Their little eyes and ears are starting open now.

Puppies are born underdeveloped, known as altricial animals, and rely totally on their mothers for survival. The eyes and ears are some of the last organs to develop in utero, therefore the eyelids and ear canals are fused shut at birth. This protects these organs while they're still developing from pathogens, debris, bright light and sounds as well as ensuring photoreceptors, the retina and the fragile structures of the inner ear aren't exposed to potentially damaging stimuli.

Even when the eyes and ears start to open, puppies need to be protected from bright light and loud noises for a few more weeks, while they learn how to filter stimuli. The fragility of the photoreceptors and mechanics of the ear means that long term damage can be done to their eyesight and hearing if exposed too soon. I keep my puppy rooms quiet and dark until pups are around 3 weeks. I start introducing them to household noises and other locations in my home and gradually build up their tolerance to being outside from an hour a day to all day (by 6 weeks).

Fire's "Breakfast Buffet" litter is 10 days old and are reaching all their milestones

My little guy, is back to birth weight, which is fantastic. I was worried about him after losing little Muffin, so I've been topping him up with my home-made milk formula and I ensure he's on a teat whenever I go into Fire's room. I know he "should" be heavier; but in this game a win is a win regardless of how small it is. This little guy is a fighter and he's going to be the perfect companion for his humans- I just know it πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ❀️
