Yesterday we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming 26 wonderful guests from Port Stephens Coaches to Drayhorse Shires for a farm tour, a beautiful lunch and, of course, a Cobb & Co ride! ✨

What an incredible afternoon we had! We loved sharing our little piece of the world with you all and seeing everyone enjoy the horses, the history and the experience we’re working so hard to create.

We are so grateful for the support, encouragement and amazing people who continue to get behind our little Drayhorse Shires family.

We have BIG visions, BIG ideas and BIG dreams for the future and with the best people supporting us, we are so excited to see where this journey takes us!

Here’s to many more wonderful functions, tours, celebrations and adventures together. 🐴🤎

DRAYHORSE KING OF SPADES — BIG HORSE, BIG JUMPS, BIG DREAMS! 🐴❤️

We’ve been a little quiet on social media as we prepare for some very busy times ahead, with much of our focus over the past few weeks being on King’s ridden career and the incredible partnership he is building with Tia.

King, our resident stallion here at Drayhorse Shires, is stepping into this exciting new chapter with confidence, trust and plenty of heart.

Their first ever showjumping course. Their first One Day Event. And what a way to start! 🥹

It’s not just about jumping fences, it’s about the trust, confidence and bond between two horses and riders who believe in each other. Tia believes in King, King trusts Tia, and together they’re proving that anything is possible.

Big horse. Big heart. Big jumps.
Who says a Shire can’t jump? 😉

Here at Drayhorse Shires, we truly believe there’s a balance between riding and driving. 🖤

Riding gives our horses something different to do. They genuinely enjoy the one-on-one time with their rider, it helps develop different muscle groups, and allows us to focus on strengthening specific areas and refining particular movements, all of which benefits them when they are working in the carriage.

Being ridden also lets us feel each horse underneath us, giving us a much better understanding of their conformation, movement, and unique personality. That knowledge is absolutely invaluable and helps us become better horsemen and women.

Gradually, we are working our way through the team so every one of our horses is confident and capable both under saddle and in harness.

Today it was Archie’s turn, with Tia in the saddle, and it’s safe to say he loved every single minute of it! 🖤

When you head to New South Wales for a wedding with two incredible Shire horses, stop for a well earned break along the way, and get to watch the sun set over this beautiful country from horseback… moments like these remind you just how lucky we are.

We never take this life for granted, and we are so grateful for the amazing places this journey takes us.

We cannot wait to share the wedding photos with you all! But until then, here’s a sneak peak at a wonderful day.

Another superstar joins the team! 🌟

Tia and Duchess have done it again! On just her third ride, Duchess headed out on a trail ride with Nomes and our trusted old hand, Henry. What an incredible young mare she is! She took everything in her stride and never put a foot wrong.

Duchess is a true testament to her breeding, sired by our resident Shire stallion, King, and out of our beautiful mare, Fleur. The quality, temperament and willingness she’s showing already have us so excited for her future. This one is going to be something very special. ❤️

We couldn’t be prouder of this partnership. Watching Tia bring these young horses along with so much patience and confidence is a pleasure to witness.

Another ridden pony added to the Drayhorse Shires team… and the future has never looked brighter! 🖤🐴

Introducing our beautiful mare
✨Ingleside Fleur-de-lys✨

Every great breeding program begins with a foundation, and for Drayhorse Shires, that foundation is our beautiful Fleur.

Ingleside Fleur-de-lys comes from one of Australia’s most successful and respected Shire horse bloodlines. Her dam, Elizabeth (Ebony), made history by being crowned Supreme Shire at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, an incredible achievement that has continued through generations of this remarkable family. Fleur’s full sister, Ingleside Madeline, also earned the prestigious title of Supreme Shire at Sydney Royal, while her niece, Ingleside Ebony Rose, has gone on to win the same honour twice. Her half-sister, Ingleside Melinda, was also a highly successful show horse in Queensland.

Fleur’s sire was equally impressive, becoming the winner of the first Ridden Shire Class ever held at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, adding even more distinction to her exceptional pedigree.

Originally bred by Ingleside Shire Horse Stud, Fleur was started in harness from a young age and has developed into the beautiful, kind and willing mare she is today.

To us, Fleur represents far more than an exceptional pedigree. She is one of the most important horses at Drayhorse Shires and the benchmark for our business and breeding program. Her temperament, movement, presence and outstanding bloodlines embody everything we strive to preserve and promote within this magnificent endangered breed.

The legacy doesn’t stop with Fleur. We are incredibly proud to also have her beautiful daughter, Duchess, who is now preparing to embark on her own harness career. Watching Duchess follow in her mother’s footsteps is incredibly special, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds as another generation of this outstanding bloodline begins its journey.
