🦷🐴 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 🚀

Dr Lauren and Nurse Erin were busy with a few equine dentals this morning, including one with this very cute patient, Rocket the miniature pony! 💙

Just like their bigger horsey friends, miniature ponies need regular dental care to keep their mouths comfortable and help them chew properly. Rocket was in good hands with our team!

Does your horse, donkey or pony need a dental check, or do you have questions about their teeth, vaccinations or other equine health needs? Give the Maleny Vet Services team a call on 5494 3622 - we're always happy to chat about keeping your four-legged friends feeling their best. 🐴

Thanks to our patient little friend 🚀 for being such a good sport this morning. 🥰

🐾 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗩𝗲𝘁 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝘃𝗲𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱! 🐾

Today, we’re celebrating 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗮, 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮, 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝘆, 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗻, 𝗖𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲, 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲, 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗶, 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶, 𝗘𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘆 - our amazing vet nurses who bring so much skill, compassion, patience and dedication to the care of every animal that comes through our doors.

From comforting worried pets and their people, to assisting with surgeries, keeping everything running behind the scenes and going above and beyond when things get busy, these women are an absolutely essential part of our team. They do the hard, messy, emotional and often exhausting work with so much heart (and a fair bit of fur on their scrubs!).

We also want to give a shout-out to our wonderful support crew - 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗻, 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗶𝗺 - who are always ready to jump in when an extra set of hands is needed. It takes a whole team to keep things moving, and we’re so grateful for you. 💚

To our nurses: thank you for everything you do, every single day. We might be a little biased, but we reckon we have the best vet nurses around, and we’re incredibly lucky to have you.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗩𝗲𝘁 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆! You deserve the world - but we hope you know just how much you’re appreciated, and how happy we are that you're in OUR world. 🐾💚

And just like that... we’re back. 🌿

4 days, 3 nights, 29 big kids and 12 little kids - including our newest (and tiniest) family member at just 3 weeks old... FOMO is real!

There was a bit of everything. Horse riding, muddy slip ’n slides, swimming, floating, bike and quad rides, BBQs, games, spotlight chasey, plenty of chats and even more laughs. There was the footy final on the “big screen”, Secret Santa Steal that always gets hilariously personal (😝), and enough dirt and mud to keep us doing laundry for several months.

At one stage, a curious brown snake popped into tent city to see what all the fuss was about, took one look at all the humans and a small army of dogs, and decided the scrub was probably a better place to be 🐍 (we appreciated that decision).

And then there was the margarita bar 🍹...an ingenious addition by Dr Oscar and his rockstar fiancée Tayer, who kept the good vibes flowing and the weekend feeling even more like a holiday. What a way to level-up!

Mostly, though, it was just really lovely to have (almost!) everyone together. Away from the practice, out of uniform and into the dirt, with nowhere we needed to be and plenty of time to eat, drink, talk rubbish, laugh until our stomachs hurt and make a few more memories together.

We’re back to reality now… but we’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Thanks for the memories, team. We are incredibly lucky to have this bonus extended family. ❤️

👑✨ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲! ✨👑

Once a year, the Maleny Vets work family packs up and heads bush together for our annual team trip! 🏕️🌿

It's a chance for some very busy bees to slow down, spend some quality time together with our families and remember to be humans outside of work, too.

We'll eat, laugh (a lot), make memories and recharge our batteries before heading back ready to give your two- and four-legged family members our very best.

So naturally, when the lovely folk at 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 asked if they could feature Deb and Maleny Vet Services in their September issue, I said yes and then had to strong-arm 💪 her into it.

So while you're out and about, grab yourself a free copy and have a read. The Q&A gives you a bit of insight into the person behind the business - despite Deb’s best efforts to avoid talking about herself.

To maintain some sort of privacy, I won't tell you what page it's on, but as a hint, I will say it's somewhere between page 12 and page 14. 🤔

And please, if you see Deb, 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗜 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀. 🤫

🚨 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗠𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 🚨

Unfortunately, the weather is currently pretty much 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲 - warming-up, humid and just lovely if you're a tiny blood-sucking parasite with absolutely no regard for anyone else's wellbeing 🙃

While they're present all year, we tend to see a real surge in paralysis ticks throughout Maleny and surrounds from 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀, so now is a very good time for a little prevention check.

A few reminders:

🐾 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲. And yes, that means all year round - ticks don't take winter holidays.

🔎 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗗𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗬, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Feeling through their coat with your fingers as well as just looking... lots of scruffy pats!

⚠️ 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀:

• Wobbly or "drunk" walking
• Reluctance to exercise
• A change in their bark or meow
• Vomiting or regurgitation
• Weakness or difficulty standing
• Trouble swallowing or breathing

If you find a tick or your pet is showing any of these signs, don't wait and see how they go. Remove the tick as soon as you can without squeezing it, and give us a call on 𝟬𝟳 𝟱𝟰𝟵𝟰 𝟯𝟲𝟮𝟮 for advice. Tick paralysis can progress frighteningly quickly.

We know checking for ticks is about as exciting as cleaning out the fridge, but it's one of those little jobs that can make a 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 ❤️

Want a refresher on ticks, prevention, symptoms and what to do if you find one? We've got you covered here 👇

https://www.malenyvet.com.au/tick-paralysis-signs-treatments-and-the-importance-of-preventative-measures/

And if you're not sure whether your pet's current prevention is up to the job, give us a call. We'd much rather have a chat about prevention now than meet you and a very unhappy doggo or kitty at 2am 😬 But we will do that too!

There were a whole lot of "Naaaaaaaaaw!"s packed into one 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 on Wednesday. 🥹🐾

𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗻 and 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗶 popped in to check on beautiful mum Molly and her gorgeous puppies, and we're so happy to report that everyone is doing wonderfully. Mum is absolutely smashing it and the pups are feeding well, putting on weight, and somehow getting even more adorable every day. 💛

If you've been following their story, you'll notice each little one has a very special name. They're named after Mum and Dad, along with the Maleny Vets team who helped welcome them into the world a few nights ago. I'm not crying, you're crying! 🥹❤️

We feel incredibly lucky to have been part of their entry into the world, and we can't wait to watch these little personalities continue to grow.

🐶🐱 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 🦷

We all joke about doggy breath... but your pet's persistent bad breath isn't normal. It's often one of the first signs of dental disease, which can be painful and affect your pet's overall health.

That's why this August we're encouraging pet owners to take a closer look at what's happening inside their pet's mouth. Just look at the difference a professional descale and polish can make! 👀

To help shine a light on dental care a little easier this August, we're offering:

🦷 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 - a great way to find out how your pet's teeth are looking and whether they might benefit from treatment. Learn more or book here: https://www.malenyvet.com.au/more-than-smelly-breath/

✨ 𝟭𝟬% 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 performed during August*

🥣 𝟰𝟬% 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 for the month

🦴 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗛𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 - individual chews start at $1 (for the small size) or buy 2 boxes and get 1 FREE (same size boxes only, while stocks last)

A healthier mouth means a happier, more comfortable pet. If your pet has bad breath, yellow or brown build-up on their teeth, red gums, or seems reluctant to chew, we'd love to help.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:
𝗵𝘁𝘁𝗽𝘀://𝘄𝘄𝘄.𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘆𝘃𝗲𝘁.𝗰𝗼𝗺.𝗮𝘂/𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲-𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻-𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘆-𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵/

*Discount applies to descale and polish procedures performed during August. Pre-anaesthetic blood testing, medications and any additional procedures (such as extractions) are excluded from the discount.

🌙🐾 𝗔 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆'𝘀 𝗣𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 🐾🌙

Last night was a big one for Molly the Cattle Dog (and some of our team)!

Molly delivered two beautiful puppies naturally, but when her labour stalled it became clear she needed an emergency caesarean section to safely deliver the rest of her litter.

𝗗𝗿 𝗔𝗺𝘆 headed in to perform surgery with support from 𝗗𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 and super-nurses 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮 and 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲, working well into the night (or perhaps we should say very early this morning!).

Six more puppies were delivered via caesarean. Sadly, despite everyone's best efforts, one puppy didn't survive.

We're so happy to report that Molly is doing well and is now busy looking after six gorgeous girls and one very sweet little boy. 💗💗💗💗💗💗💙

These moments remind us that veterinary medicine is such a team effort. From Molly's brilliant parents monitoring her through her initial labour and knowing when to call in the professionals, through to the surgery, newborn care and supporting mum afterwards, every person plays an important role in giving this little family the best possible start.

Congratulations, mama Molly and welcome to the world, little ones! 🐶💕
