After finding one on a dog today, Let's talk ticks, specifically the Paralysis ticks. They are blood-feeding parasites found mainly along Australia’s east coast. When attached, they release a toxin that affects the nervous system, which can cause weakness, loss of coordination, breathing difficulties, and paralysis in animals and sometimes people. Symptoms often develop a few days after the tick attaches and can worsen quickly, making paralysis ticks especially dangerous. Early detection, prompt removal, and appropriate treatment are essential, and regular tick prevention is the best way to protect against them.
Though they aren't common in Tassie, it is very important to be vigilant. after a day out with your buddy, do a check over the whole body, I've attached a diagram outlining main areas to check.
