🐾Tick season is here, Hervey Bay🐾
Please take a moment to read this one. Tick paralysis cases are popping up locally right now.
When your pets are in my care, they get a full nose to tail check every day. I feel through their coat and check the ears, face, neck, under the collar, armpits, between the toes and around the tail, and I keep a close eye on any change in their bark, breathing, appetite or back legs.
Keep their tick prevention up to date and check them daily, especially after walks. If you find a tick or notice anything off, call your vet straight away. 💛
If you’re new to the Fraser Coast or weren’t already aware, paralysis ticks are extremely common in our region — and unfortunately, we are currently experiencing a severe influx of tick paralysis cases.
At the moment, we are typically seeing 1–2 dogs and cats affected by tick paralysis every single day. 💔
Paralysis ticks can be extremely dangerous and, without prompt veterinary treatment, can be life-threatening.
🕷️ Prevention is key!
The best thing you can do as a pet parent is make sure your fur baby is consistently protected with an effective tick preventative.
Depending on the product, options can include:
🐾 Monthly chews
🐾 3–6 monthly spot-ons
Regular tick prevention can significantly reduce the risk of your pet becoming paralysed by a paralysis tick.
⚠️ Please don’t wait until you find a tick on your pet to start prevention. Regular protection is essential, particularly during periods of high tick activity.
If you’re unsure whether your pet’s current tick prevention is providing adequate protection, speak with our team — we’re happy to help you choose the right option for your pet. ❤️🐾
Stay vigilant, check your pets regularly, and keep their tick prevention up to date!
