COACH OF THE MONTH | For Krystal Wang, coaching has always been about more than producing a better performance in the arena. At its heart, her work is about creating better understanding between horse and rider, and giving both the confidence to find a more willing, relaxed and enjoyable partnership. πŸ‘‰πŸ» Does your horse respond to aids sometimes, but not all the time?
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Does it feel like you ride around a little lost, not knowing what to work on next?
πŸ‘‰πŸ» Do you feel like you can do better for your horse but don't know where to start?

First question we need to ask ourselves..

Is my horse relaxed & free of tension? βœ…
Is my horse balanced on his own? βœ…
Is he moving freely forward and off the forehand? βœ…

Do I have to help him find his balance?
Balanced means = even weight distribution and aligned through the body βœ…

Is he responsive & obedient to light aids?
If he isn't, do I know how to help him?

🐴 A well-executed halt is more than just stopping β€” it’s a reflection of your horse’s training, balance, and understanding.

A good halt shows:
✨ Balance – stepping into the halt without falling onto the forehand
✨ Engagement – the hindlegs actively coming under the body
✨ Straightness – aligned through the body, not swinging or crooked
✨ Connection – soft, consistent contact into the reins (if under saddle)
✨ Responsiveness – listening to light, clear aids (in this case, voice aids)
✨ Relaxation – no tension, bracing, or resistance

Do you grip with your knees?
Do you tio left and right?
Do you crunch your ribs on one side, leaving your shoulders unlevel?

A balanced seat isn’t about looking pretty in the saddle.
It’s about moving with your horse, not against them.
Better balance = clearer aids, softer contact, and a happier, more willing horse.

Please make sure your horse is quiet and suitable for this exercise! There are many ways to find your seat - let us know how we can help!
