🐾 Looking after the dogs that work for us 🐾

Today was chiropractic treatment day for some of our dogs with Kassie from All in One Equine❤️

These dogs work incredibly hard for us. They run, hunt, train, compete and give absolutely everything we ask of them — and because of that, it’s really important to me that we put just as much effort into looking after their bodies as we do into keeping them fit and working.

For me, regular body checks and treatments are part of owning working dogs. Keeping an eye on how they’re moving, noticing when something feels a little off, giving them adequate rest and recovery, and getting them checked when needed.

They can’t tell us when they’re feeling sore or tight, so it’s our responsibility to pay attention.

They work hard for us, so the very least we can do is work hard to keep them feeling their best. 🖤

Happy, comfortable dogs will always come before the job. 🐕

PUPPIES! 🐶

I get a lot of questions about puppies when people see these dogs, watch them work and decide they need a tiny future chaos machine of their own 😂

Unfortunately, right now I can’t tell you exactly when puppies will be planned — and there are two big reasons: time and space.

At the moment, I don’t have the space to have all of my own dogs living with me, let alone add a litter of puppies into the mix.

And then there’s the time.

Everyone raises puppies differently, but I am very, very hands-on. When I have a litter, I’m there for every single moment from whelping until the day they leave.

That means cleaning whelping boxes and puppy areas four times a day, preparing food for Mum and eventually the puppies, watching personalities develop, and individually exposing each puppy to as much of the world as I possibly can.

Gunfire. Cats. Different smells. Lure movement. Small prey. Different environments, surfaces, noises, people and situations.

I temperament test them, watch how they think, how they recover, what drives them and what makes each individual puppy tick. And I do that one-on-one, not just as a litter.

Safe to say, by the time my puppies leave me, I know those puppies. And apparently they know me too, because we’ve tested the theory years later and they absolutely remember me 🥹

But doing it the way I want to do it takes a MASSIVE amount of time — time that I simply don’t have right now.

The good news is, I’m actively working on changing both the time and space problems 👀

I currently have two potential litters floating around in my brain for 2027 — one raised by me, and another potentially raised elsewhere from dogs of my breeding.

So please, don’t stop asking. I love that people are interested in these dogs and what we’re producing.

Just understand that if you want one of our puppies…

you’re probably going to be waiting around a year. 😂

Good working dogs are worth waiting for. 🖤

Whippets weren’t originally bred to be couch ornaments wrapped in blankets demanding the good spot on the lounge 😅

They were bred as working dogs — fast, agile sighthounds used for hunting and catching small game, particularly rabbits and other vermin. That speed, prey drive and determination didn’t disappear just because they discovered doonas 😂

Our whippets are still very much working whippets.

We primarily use them for foxes and feral cats — two introduced predators that cause an enormous amount of destruction to our native wildlife. For us, working the dogs is about practical feral-pest control while also allowing them to do the job generations of sighthounds were bred to do.

On occasion, they’re also used around pigs, but only when we have a suitable drop dog there to do the heavy lifting and get the whippets out of trouble. They’re quick, athletic little hunting dogs — they are absolutely not built to wrestle big boars, try as they might!

Then they come home, steal the blankets, sleep for approximately 19 hours and act like they’ve never worked a day in their lives. 😂

Built to run. Bred to hunt. Currently occupying the entire couch. 🐕💨

The fact that I got to grow up and become a crazy dog lady is honestly a 10/10 life outcome 😂🐾

Just a disclaimer before anyone starts counting dogs and wondering exactly how many live at my house - not all the dogs featured live with me 😂 I own most of them, yes, but some of my own dogs don’t currently live with me while we’re living in town.

These two aren’t even mine, but I did spend my afternoon adventuring with them, because my hobbies include collecting other people’s dogs too 😂

Hopefully soon we’ll be back out of town and I’ll have more of my ridiculous little canine army back under the one roof. 🤞

But until then, I’m pretty bloody blessed that even when they don’t live with me, I still get to see them, adventure with them and be part of their lives. 🥹❤️

Crazy dog lady status: successfully achieved. 🐕🐕🐕

🏆 RESULTS ARE IN! 🏆

Hotly contested by some VERY keen dogs today 😂🔥

Now, before we get into it, let’s make this unnecessarily confusing — because our four dogs aren’t actually all competing against each other in the official rankings 😬

🪿 Goose — Group 4 (Hounds)
🐞 Ladybug & 🪓 Ragnar — Unregistered Large
👑 Alice — Veterans

They’re all scored using the same criteria, they’re just placed within their respective classes — so their official placings look a little odd compared to their actual scores!

Without further ado… 🥁

🪿 GOOSE — 174 POINTS
🥇 1st Group 4
🏆 TOP DOG OF THE DAY… AGAIN.
The Flying Goose continues her reign. Apparently sharing the spotlight with her children and elderly friend was never on the agenda. 👑😂

🐞 LADYBUG — 169 POINTS
🥈 2nd Unregistered Large
For a dog who came into this with precisely zero solo lure coursing runs, she certainly understood the assignment. 😎

🪓 RAGNAR — 169 POINTS
🥉 3rd Unregistered Large
Yep — exactly the same overall score as Ladybug! Lady snuck ahead on the placings by scoring slightly higher in skill. Sibling rivalry officially activated. 😂

👑 ALICE — 160 POINTS
🥈 2nd Veterans
After not lure coursing since before I had kids, approximately 742,873 injuries and coming out of retirement a little… well insulated… Alice put in two VERY cruisy runs and still casually walked away with second place. 😂👏

So the unofficial household leaderboard:

Goose — 174 👑
Ladybug — 169
Ragnar — 169
Alice — 160

Turns out the answer to “can anyone dethrone Goose?” is, once again…

No. No they cannot. 🪿🏆😂

The Flying Goose is hard to beat!

The Flying Goose is hard to beat!

What an absolutely stunning day of lure coursing! 🐾☀️

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out today — familiar faces, brand new faces, seasoned dogs and plenty of new dogs having a crack! We absolutely love seeing more people come along and discover just how much fun this sport is. ❤️

And apparently we’re just going to keep writing the same results post…

🪿 ONCE AGAIN, GOOSE IS TOP DOG! 🪿

The Flying Goose has done it AGAIN. 👑🏆
At this point we may need to start checking her for performance-enhancing snacks.

Thank you to everyone who helps make these days happen, from our volunteers to everyone who brings their dogs along and makes the atmosphere so much fun.

Another brilliant SEQ Lure Coursing day done and dusted. We can’t wait to do it all again next month! 🐕💨

🚨 THERE’S A HOT NEW BOMBSHELL IN THE VILLA 👀👀

Well… she’s not new.
And “hot” might be overselling it. 😂

BUT we officially have a fourth contender joining today’s lure coursing lineup — veteran Queen Alice 👑

Alice hasn’t lure coursed since before I had kids 😬
She’s had approximately 742,873 injuries, has spent most of her recent athletic career specialising in naps, and she’s currently a little… ✨well insulated✨.

But she’s old. She’s experienced. She knows the game. And somewhere underneath the extra condition and questionable structural integrity is a lure coursing dog 😂

So now the lineup is:

🪿 Goose — the consistent Queen
🪓 Ragnar — big, fast & experienced
🐞 Ladybug — absolutely no idea what she’s doing, pure wildcard energy
👑 Alice — semi-retired, slightly chunky veteran being dragged out of retirement for one last questionable career decision

Plot twist: does Alice come out and absolutely HUMBLE the young ones? 👀😂

Will she be the highest scorer of our four?!

Place your bets. 😎

🏁 LURE COURSING TOMORROW! 🏁

We’re taking three whippets… but who’s your pick to bring home the glory? 👀🏆

Remember — lure coursing isn’t just about who has the fastest legs. Dogs are judged on speed, agility, endurance, follow and enthusiasm — so they’ve actually got to use their brains as well as their zoomies.

🪿 DOG 1 — THE FLYING GOOSE

The consistent queen. 👑
The proof that good things come in small, slightly unhinged packages.
The reason Hayley’s walls are decorated in ribbons.

Goose knows the game. She’s experienced, determined, consistent and has absolutely no intention of letting her own children embarrass her publicly.

Safe bet? Very possibly.

🪓 DOG 2 — RAGNAR

Goose’s first-born son and considerably more dog than his mother ever intended to manufacture.

Big. Strong. Fast. Stylish.

He’s been sorting out foxes since he was six months old, has had a few lure coursing runs under his belt and definitely understands the assignment.

He’s got the speed, the prey drive and the experience, but never quite outscored his mother…

Could tomorrow be Ragnar’s day?

🐞 DOG 3 — LADYBUG

Ragnar’s little sister and quite literally everything I wanted when I bred Goose — and more.

Her preparation for tomorrow has been impeccable:

Runs by herself: 0
Runs on foxes: 0
Training leading into tomorrow: 0
General preparation: also 0

She will be arriving with nothing but genetics, audacity and the vague assumption that she’ll work it out.

Is she the underdog? Absolutely.

But there’s something deeply concerning about the ones who have no idea what they’re doing and therefore have absolutely nothing to lose. 😂🐞

SO PLACE YOUR BETS 👇

🪿 GOOSE — the proven queen
🪓 RAGNAR — the powerhouse
🐞 LADYBUG — the completely untested wildcard

Who are you backing?! 🏆
