OPEN STATEMENT TO DOGS AUSTRALIA — FORMERLY ANKC
Hugh Gent Golden Retrievers To Mr Hugh Gent OAM, President of Dogs Australia; Ms Emma Ford, Administrator and Company Secretary of Dogs Australia; Dogs Queensland; and Dogs West:
After more than 15 years as a member and breeder, Dogs Queensland refused both my membership and my registered breeder prefix.
My previous 12-month suspension arose from a complaint concerning a fit-to-fly certificate that I have consistently maintained I did not alter. I appealed the decision, completed the entire suspension and then diligently attempted to restore my membership and prefix.
Information communicated to me has left me seriously concerned that the outcome may have been predetermined. That is my honestly held concern—not a claim that misconduct has already been legally proved. I call upon Dogs Queensland to release its complete reasons, decision-making records and relevant conflict-of-interest declarations for genuinely independent examination.
When I approached Dogs Australia, my concerns were directed back to the state body. That exposes the system’s central failure: Dogs Australia presents a national registry, but responsibility is divided between states and no independent national body appears willing to intervene when a member believes a state process has failed.
After 15 years, I received no meaningful breeder support when it mattered.
I name Mr Gent and Ms Ford because they were addressed in my previous correspondence and hold publicly listed national positions. I am asking them for answers—not alleging that either personally made the decisions concerning me.
Dogs Queensland may refuse access to its membership, prefix and official registration papers. That refusal alone is not a government prohibition against breeding lawfully outside its private registry. I intend to continue breeding responsibly, complying with government and council requirements and being completely transparent that my future puppies will not be Dogs Australia registered.
I call for an independent national review of Dogs Australia, Dogs Queensland, Dogs West and every state member body—including their disciplinary procedures, conflicts of interest, inconsistent rules, appeals, fees and breeder support.
