Welcome to Grand Amie Giant Rabbit Stud, member of TVRAI, and ANCRI. Grande Amie is French for “big friend”.
I am Peta Cohen, mother of 3, master of none, and a person whose obsession with pets of all sorts should probably have received therapy many years ago.
Over 25 years I have shown and bred dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, chickens, sheep, goats and probably something else I’ve forgotten about.
In 2024, I decided to get my son a pet. He decided on a French Lop, and Lo and behold, there was a breeder with bunnies for sale less than an hour from us.
Sometimes I wish I hadn’t made that phonecall…..😂
Long story short, the breeder was closing down, and if someone didn’t take her remaining 4 breeding rabbits and continue the breed, French Lops would be lost to Australia forever.
It really didn’t even feel like a choice.
Then I got them home, put them on the scale and realised not one of them met the minimum weight for a French Lop. I had oversized Germans instead. Cue a project to recreate them from scratch.
2 years later, I now have Flemish Giants, British Giants, Dwarf Lops and German Lops, and am both working on improving the individual breeds to show standards, and on crossing them together in a project to recreate the French Lop.
I show with TVRAI in Dandenong, and have recently joined the committee. I look forward to prompting purebred bunny ownership, and am more than happy to assist others to get started in breeding and showing purebred bunnies.
Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to follow along to see where this “rabbit hole” (see what I did there 😜🤦🏼♀️) leads.
Cheers 🍻
