🐴 HORSE WELFARE STARTS WITH NOTICING

Our horses can’t tell us in words when something is wrong — but they are constantly communicating through their behaviour, movement and body language.

Take a moment before you ride to really look at your horse.

👀 Are they moving comfortably?
🥕 Are they eating and drinking normally?
🦵 Is there any heat, swelling or tenderness?
😌 Are they behaving like their usual self?
🐎 Is their tack comfortable and correctly fitted?
🌡️ Are the weather and conditions suitable for the work you are asking them to do?
Sometimes the best horsemanship decision is to change the plan, reduce the workload or not ride at all.

Good horse welfare isn’t just what happens when something goes wrong — it’s the small checks and decisions we make every single day.

️🐴 2027 PONY CLUB NSW STATE CAMP APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN! 🐴

The wait is over — applications are officially open for the 2027 Pony Club NSW State Camp, being held 10th–14th January 2027 at Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC).

State Camp is one of the highlights of the Pony Club NSW calendar, bringing riders from across the state together for several days of quality coaching, learning, rider development, friendships and plenty of Pony Club fun.

Please speak with your Zone Chief Instructor (ZCI) to confirm your eligibility and obtain the required approval before submitting your application.

Applicants should have their Pony Club membership information, horse details, results, Rally Day attendance and proficiency information ready when applying.

💡 Take your time with your application. With limited places available in each discipline, selectors can only assess riders on the information provided. Include clear, accurate and detailed information about your current competition level, results, experience and why you would like to attend State Camp. 👂 This Week’s Gear Reminder: Ear Covers, Fly Hoods and Bonnets

Ear covers, fly hoods and bonnets may be made from sound-reducing material, but there are some important rules to remember:
❌ Ear plugs are not permitted
❌ Bonnets and hoods must never be tied down
❌ They must not be attached to the noseband

These requirements are outlined in Blue Book Section 2.13, page 26.

Before attending a rally, clinic or competition, always check the current online Blue Book and the Pony Club Australia National Gear Rules for the full and most up-to-date requirements.

A quick gear check before you ride can help prevent confusion on the day.
