David is coming back to WA on the 14 and 15th of November.
Even if you have no intention of trimming hooves , you will learn so much and not just about hooves. One of the best investment you can make for your horse soundness is to understand what a good hoof looks like and how to get there .

Young horse training . Milo had 3
Months off over the winter and other than an occasional brush and regular feet trimming he was left to be. Him and Walker have developed a deep friendship often eating from the same bucket abd endlessly playing which is so sweet to watch . Over the last couple of weeks I have started taking him for walks on his own . This is something he did not embrace at first so we slowly increased the distance from 50 m to 500m over a number of session, adding a little jump over a ditch. He now walks happily away from the herd . This will one day transition to going for rides in the forest together but we have plenty of times before this become a reality.
Today we did a short poneying session introducing a few steps of trots .
It is so lovely to slowly teaching a horse by small increment so nothing is ever a big deal .

This is Cisco, almost 20 yo. He has EMS and suffered a laminitic episode 4 years ago. I have worked hard to learn to be a better trimmer and I thank David Landreville- for sharing his knowledge so generously. Good trimming combined with a regular programme of in hand and ridden classical work has transformed his life.

Leading horses: horses cannot pivot in the spot from a stand still unlike us who are two legged creatures, yet when we lead horses we tend to forget this easily . This results in pulling them off balance which is hardly a good start , since putting a halter is often the first thing we do. In this video the third turn I make illustrates this point .
Awareness in each small interaction we have we our horses can make a big difference in how they perceive us. Can you imagine if each time they get haltered and led they are pulled off balance ? It would hardly give them a good opinion of us human!

I absolutely love long reining. It is a wonderful tool to help horses develop balance, strength, straightness, and self-carriage without the weight of a rider. It allows the horse to learn how to carry themselves correctly while building confidence, understanding, and trust.

Whether you're starting a young horse, rehabilitating an older one, or refining the training of an advanced horse, long reining bridges the gap between groundwork and riding in a way that is both kind and incredibly effective.

The beauty of long reining is that it teaches the horse how to move, rather than simply asking them to move. Once they understand correct posture and balance from the ground, those same qualities become much easier to achieve under saddle.

I am thinking of runnin a two day clinic later in the season specifically on this topic

I almost always do a bit if ground work before riding . Here I chose to do a bit of long reining because it is an excellent way to check the spinal alignement.

A bit of a ramble about coming to the other side of fear and anxiety . Nothing to do with horses, except everything has to do with horses
