You may have noticed that this page has been quiet. About a month ago, I slipped on wet grass in the horse paddock during feeding time (no, I didn’t fall off a horse 😅) and dislocated and shattered my ankle. I spent over two weeks in hospital for surgery and recovery.

Recovery will be slow, but I’m making progress. I haven’t been able to see my herd for four weeks and miss them dearly, but I’m incredibly grateful to my amazing friends and family for taking such good care of them. ❤️

Learning about pain management and physio has also given me new insight into how challenging rehabilitation can be for horses.

I’ll return to sharing my herd when I can visit them again. Until then, let’s see what’s in the archive. 😉

The new kid is slowly meeting his new herd.
Yesterday he met Flame and Djinny, which went really well. Flame instantly fell in love with him. 🥰
Today he met Storm, and luckily it was very uneventful. Exactly what we want. 😅
I like to introduce a new horse to each herd member slowly. It gives everyone a chance to adjust, keeps stress levels lower, and helps reduce the risk of injury. There’s no need to rush these things.
The new kid is very well adjusted. He’s lived in a herd most of his life, so he understands herd dynamics and respects boundaries well.
Now we’ll see how he goes with some of the others a few of which can be a little bit more assertive.

Yes we’ve done it again. 😅
Meet the newest addition to our herd!

He’s a 9-year-old bay roan Curly × Quarter Horse, making him hypoallergenic and a great option for people with a horse hair allergy.

Although he’s not a young horse, he still has plenty to learn. Ben will be training him, and we’re hopeful he’ll become a wonderful therapy horse in the future.

Welcome to the family! We’re looking forward to the journey ahead.

Bit of a wet morning, but how cute are all the birds today?
The cockatoos and galahs must have found something tasty in the paddock. They really are such characters.
Unfortunately, my girls chased them off. Whenever they see me, they have to come over and see what I’m doing. The birds seem happy when the horses are standing around but clearly take off when the horses are on the move.

Rosa loves attention and, being a baby horse, she sometimes gets a bit full of herself and excited. 😅
On occasion she pushes boundaries and goes a little too far. Biting is definitely too far.
I gave her a quick boundary by protecting my space. She knew straight away she had crossed the line and quickly settled for cuddles and attention instead. 🥰.
The challenge with young horses is teaching them where the boundaries are while still encouraging their curiosity, confidence and personality.

Dental day. Spent the day getting the horses’ teeth floated and checked. They were definitely a little sleepy and out of it afterwards, but now they’re feeling much better with maintained and balanced teeth again.

Now the important question…

Who did post-dental sedation the best? 🤣

I had a fantastic day at the yesterday. I had the privilege of working with lovely women and their beautiful horses.

Witnessing them on their horse journey was such a joy. Watching and guiding them as they refined and gained new skills, furthered their knowledge of horse behaviour, and deepened their relationship and communication with their horses was a real pleasure.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and trusted me to guide you and your horse.

A big thank you as well to for organising and creating such a beautiful, cooperative and safe environment to teach, share and learn in. 😊

Unfortunately I only have this one photo, which doesn’t do the weekend justice, but I was too busy teaching. 😉
Oh and that’s not me in the picture. 😂

I wasn’t planning on this today at all, but I had Flame in the arena and after some groundwork I just got the feeling it was the right time to see if I could lay across her back.

First time for her.

I’m not officially starting her under saddle, I’m focusing on Storm at the moment but I do think she’s ready.

Who knows what we’ll do next. 🥰🤣
