SOMETIMES CONFIDENCE HAS VERY SHORT LEGS. 😂❤️🐾

Today wasn’t really a training session.

It was friends, dogs, sand, water, laughter... and a few very determined little legs. 🌊🐾

Chica, Lilly and Ziggy came along for a beach adventure, and somewhere between exploring, playing and getting our feet wet, something rather special happened.

Little Lilly & Ziggy went swimming. ❤️

Watching a tiny Chihuahua paddle through the water might not sound like a huge achievement.

But to Lilly’s owner, it was.

And I think that’s one of the beautiful things about sharing life with dogs.

Sometimes we become so focused on training behaviours that we forget how much dogs can learn simply by experiencing life with us.

Exploring.

Trying.

Working something out.

Discovering, “Actually... I can do this.”

Nobody needed Lilly and Ziggy to become an Olympic swimmer. 😂

She simply had an opportunity to experience something new, with people and dogs she trusted around her.

And those little experiences matter.

Because confidence isn’t built by removing every challenge from a dog’s life.

It’s built through manageable experiences, successful outcomes and the freedom to discover their own abilities.

Today Lilly and Ziggy discovered hers.

Four very short legs.

One rather big ocean.

And one very proud human standing nearby. ❤️🌊🐾

Sometimes the greatest training moments don’t look like training at all.

THE STICK DIDN’T CHANGE.
THE DOGS DID. ❤️🐾

A few weeks ago, this little moment would have looked very different.

Rocco can be protective of things he values.

Felix, on the other hand, has always approached life with rather... enthusiastic commitment. 😂

If Rocco had a toy or stick, Felix wanted to be involved.

Immediately.

Preferably yesterday.

And Rocco wasn’t particularly impressed with that arrangement.

So the goal was never simply to make Rocco “share”.

We worked on something much more important.

🌟 Self-regulation.
🌟Impulse control.
🌟Respecting space.

And learning how to come back down from excitement.

💰Rocco learned that Felix being nearby doesn’t automatically mean he will lose what he has.

🪾Felix learned that seeing something interesting doesn’t mean he has to immediately rush in and take it.

And slowly, their interactions began to change.

Then came this moment.

Two dogs.

One very important stick. 😆

Both on long leads.

Playing tug together.

No frantic competition.

No need to interfere.

Just two dogs who have gradually learned better ways of communicating with each other.

But my favourite moment came afterwards.

Rocco settled down with the stick.

And Felix simply sat beside him.

Relaxed.

No grabbing.

No pestering.

No argument.

That photograph means more to me than the tug-of-war video.

Because harmony in a multi-dog household isn’t created by expecting dogs to love everything the other dog does.

It comes from teaching each dog the skills to manage themselves around one another.

Rocco didn’t have to give up his stick.
Felix didn’t have to have it.

That is impulse control.

That is trust developing.

And that is what calmness can bring to a relationship.

When dogs learn to regulate themselves, they don’t just become easier to manage.
They become easier for each other to live with. ❤️

Sometimes progress looks dramatic.

Sometimes...

it looks like two dogs sitting peacefully beside one very chewed stick. 🐾🌿

Release cues are “ a massive help “ in training. 🐾

Riley the Cobberdog is learning that - when the environment gets fun, he still listens because we’re teaching “FREE” = you’re allowed to disengage and move.

A solid release cue helps your dog understand:
The click/marker ISN’T a command to act - it’s information.

“Wait” means pause, plan, choose your next behavior.

“FREE” means the moment you can go (and it’s safe to use your energy!).

When you teach a clear release cue, you’re not just training commands - you’re building trust, clarity, and confidence. 💛

Some puppies play… and some puppies *love* 💛”

“Meet Mollys comfort ritual 🐾

“She’s not “just” cuddling—she’s soothing her little heart.”

“At 16 weeks, she’s learning the art of *comfort* ~ kneading her stuffed bestie like it’s a cozy little nest. 🧸✨
Watch closely and you’ll see it: pawing in, gentle chewing, and the sweetest little ‘nursing’ rhythm.

People call it 🍪making biscuits 🍪… but for her, it’s pure calm.

This is how she regulates her feelings, settles into her safe space, and turns comfort into confidence. 🐶🤎

Bulldogs are famous for their big hearts ~ and her instincts are showing every day.

After our last session Molly got her lil favourite staffed toy and started “soothing” ~ “kneading”. How beautiful to watch her happy and calm.

Thank you to Mollys pawrents for sending me this beautiful video 🤎🐾
