Update on Logan Jnr 🥺

Logan Jnr has been unstable even on supportive treatment and immediate treatment for a suspect cat bite. He made it to vet today, but the news is not great.

The tissue around the injury to his lower right side is dying, and his little body is actively fighting a severe infection. The wound on his chest is about the size of a 5c coin, and not possible to close with surgery. And on top of all that he is still recovering from a ruptured air sac on his left side. We cannot be certain that he is unscathed internally too.

At this stage, the only thing we can do is to keep trying with antibiotics and pain relief, and supporting him with feeds or fluids as needed. The wounds are too big to surgically close, and he is too unstable to do any diagnostics to check for organ damage.

There is a chance that he may not recover from this, and if the damage continues to spread, we won't let him suffer.

Fingers crossed for little Logan Jnr, and perhaps his owner may see his post 💙

Meet JubJub 💙

JubJub, her mate Jabberwocky and more (to come) were surrendered to a vet clinic when their original owner passed away. She was incredibly fluffed up and unwell, and turned out to be eggbound!

She was unable to lay the egg with just medicine, so JubJub had to have surgery to remove it. And luckily she has made a full recovery. Thank you to Melbourne Bird Veterinary Clinic for always putting in the extra time and effort for rescues.

Many well-meaning owners don't realize that budgies do not need nest boxes, especially in aviaries and that having these boxes can endanger their lives from problems such as eggbinding and risks from colony breeding. The birds were on an all seed diet as well, which lacks Vitamin A and Calcium.

There is more to this story to come in the following weeks, but we are happy that JubJub is happy and stable now 😊

An adult male budgie, dubbed Logan Jnr has been rescued from behind a shed in Clyde 17/10/26

Thank you to Sonja from BIRDS for taking the call and guiding the member of public through securing the bird with a laundry basket when he emerged while our lovely transporter .and.friends rushed down to assist with a cage and seed.

Logan Jnr has been assessed here at Lazzi's Legacy and we highly suspect he has been attacked by a cat or similar. There are two puncture wounds, and a ruptured airsac, and he is missing feathers on one wing and the tail. He has been provided with immediate treatment, and placed in our ICU.

Love is in the air 💕 we have some special birds looking for special homes ✨️

Pavlova has been waiting for a home for 10 months, and in that time she has been wowed by Jasper. We would ideally want them to go together, or at least to homes with other budgies.

Sky & Ra are an older couple who are looking for a home with human interaction. The home they go to must not have any dogs or cats. They love to chirp together, and would ideally like a indoor home with minimal other birds 🥺

Kishmish & Mishmish are a younger bonded pair, and they must stay together. Kishmish cannot fly and is an escape artist, so their new home must not have any dogs or cats. They do well within a flock of other budgies though, indoor only.

Cockatiels ✨️

Chico had his splint removed and was microchipped today! Two more weeks of rehab and diet transitioning, then he will be off to his new home 🥳

And Harvey has been a chatterbox, he is a chill boy and will be available for adoption from 23/10 if we don't track down his owner. He was found Grand Final day in Mentone 🏈

We only ever have one cockatiel in care at a time, but since Chico has a home lined up, we were able to take Harvey 😊

Cassian has been adopted! 🫶

Now called Sorbet, he joins Lemon (a previous adoption) and Pip in their owner's home office. They spend their time attending important budgie meetings and enjoying spa days.

Cassian/Sorbet was previously deemed "unsellable" by the petshop he was at due to his metabolic bone disease. Now he joins Lemon, another MBD survivor in a fun filled home!
