When going away, it can be difficult to know what’s the best option for your cat. Should you book a pet sitter, or should you take them to a cattery? When trying to decide, take into account your individual cat’s needs and personality. If they have medical conditions or are elderly, they might require additional care. Never leave your cats unattended for extended periods of time. If you’re unsure what’s best for your cat, our team would be happy to guide you.

Whether your dog loves going for a drive or not, it’s important to always prioritise safety. Dogs should be secured in the rear of the car, using either a car harness and tether or a travel crate. This is because in an accident, dogs could become airborne and risk serious injury to themselves and others in the car. If travelling in a ute, ensure dogs are tethered appropriately to the middle of the tray so they cannot fall off the sides. Never leave a dog in a hot car.

Meet Possum 😻

Possum came to us after a post-birth trauma that required emergency surgery. With 5 little babies relying on her, time was of the essence.

Fortunately Dr Maddie and Nurse Sam were able to come in on their Friday night and get Possum the urgent care she needed.

After spending the night in hospital and getting a little extra support with feeding her babies from Nurse Sam, she went home with some meds and lots of cuddles from her owners.

Do you know a VETERINARY NURSE in your life?

We are on the look out for a veterinary nurse who is interested in a job with the lot - surgery, medicine, urgent care and consulting.

Open to both PART TIME and FULL TIME nurses.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER:

+Well above award pay

+Nurse CPD (both group and individual, next group session is on neonatal and exotics nursing, next practical session is dentals with trainers coming from Sydney)

+Purpose built hospital with lots of natural light

+Excellent team selected for skills AND attitude (nurses, CCRs and vets are equal team members)

+Patient-centered care (e.g. we have nurses on site 24/7 as we don't leave hospitalized patients on their own)

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

+Strong technical skills (cannulas, bloods, lab work, anaesthetic monitoring, injections etc)

+Commitment to nursing as a career (and willingness to engage in both individual and group CPD)

+Great attitude (give things a try, work as a team, no blame culture)

+Ability to work across both days and evenings, including some weekends (but no overnights)

If you're interested in learning more, please email Bronwyn on [email protected] - I would love to have a chat and a coffee sometime :)

Training, like diet, can be controversial as everyone has their own take on what works best. However, we strongly believe that, based on the research, positive reinforcement training results in the best short- and long-term outcomes in dogs. Positive reinforcement training relies on rewarding good behaviour, rather than punishing the bad. Punishment can be effective short term, but it results in fear and anxiety in pets.

Today we celebrate Vet Nurse Day, an opportunity to pause and appreciate everything our 9 amazing veterinary nurses and technologists do for the clinic.

From placing catheters and drawing blood, through to monitoring anaesthetics, cleaning wounds, setting up for sterile surgery and most importantly patient care and comfort, there's not much our veterinary nurse team can't do.

Thank you for being an integral part of the hospital and ensuring our pets are always receiving the best possible care.
