Why Do Snake Catchers Charge a Call-Out Fee? 🐍 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s a question that comes up from time to time, and it’s a fair one. Why does it cost money to have a snake removed?

When you call a licensed snake catcher, you’re paying for much more than the few minutes it may take to physically catch the snake.

Behind every call-out is training, experience, licensing, specialised equipment, insurance, fuel, travel and time. There’s also work that happens after we leave your property, including safely relocating the snake and keeping the required records of captures and relocations.

Snake catchers also make themselves available at all sorts of hours and often at very short notice. When the phone rings, we could be leaving dinner, family time or whatever else we’re doing to head out and help someone who has unexpectedly found a snake in their home, shed, yard or workplace.

And, of course, there’s the job itself.

Australia is home to some of the most venomous snakes in the world. Safely locating, identifying and capturing one while keeping the people, pets and snake itself out of harm’s way takes knowledge and experience.

Something many people may not realise is that snake catchers generally aren’t funded by councils or the government. We operate as small businesses and cover the costs of providing the service ourselves.

So when you pay a snake catcher’s call-out fee, you’re not just paying for someone to “pick up a snake”.

You’re paying for someone who is trained, licensed, equipped and prepared to come to you when you need them, deal with the situation safely, and make sure the snake gets another chance back where it belongs. 🐍🌿

At the same time, you’re supporting a local small business and helping us continue providing this service to our community.

We love our wildlife, but we also understand that finding a snake around your home can be a pretty stressful experience. Our job is to make that situation safer for both people and snakes. 💚

🐍 Snake season is just around the corner!

While the nights are still nice and cold, the warmer days are starting to creep in. That means snakes won’t be far behind.

Now is the perfect time to get your yard ready before snake activity really starts to increase.

A few simple things can make a big difference:
• Keep your grass short.
• Remove piles of timber, tin and other rubbish.
• Keep firewood stacked neatly and off the ground if possible.
• Trim overgrown gardens and long grass around sheds and fences.
• Reduce places where rodents can hide, as they attract snakes looking for an easy meal.

A tidy yard won’t guarantee you won’t see a snake, but it can make your property much less attractive to them.

If you do come across a snake, stay well clear, keep pets and children away, and give me a call. I’ll safely remove and relocate it.

Feel free to share this post to help spread the word before the season kicks off.

Snowy Valley Snake Removal can inspect your property for:

• Weep holes and other access points

This stunner got itself into a bit of mischief. I really don’t think he could’ve got tangled any better if he tried. It took about an hour of slowly cutting away at the netting to finally free him/her. It could’ve been quicker if I’d been able to put a tube over his head, but due to the netting being all the way up to his face I had to do it the slow way. All in all he came out pretty well unscathed. A few scales were damaged but that was about it. The meshes I thought had cut him actually hadn’t. They were just digging into him very tightly. More clips of this one to come. ゚viralシ ゚

When you’ll do anything but actually come out of the bag. A bit of an inglorious release for this guy but at the end of the day, a successful catch & release. My bag has been a bit of a safe haven for some snakes this year. Even though winter is here, they’re still getting about. An absolute beauty picked up in Tumut today.
