Retirement is an exciting new chapter for a racing greyhound—but adjusting to life as a family pet can take time, patience and gentle guidance.⁠
⁠
Many retired greyhounds have never lived inside a home before. Everyday experiences such as televisions, stairs, slippery floors, household appliances and glass doors may be completely new to them.⁠
⁠
We urgently need foster carers who can offer a safe and secure home while these beautiful dogs learn about home life at their own pace.⁠
⁠
You don’t need to be an expert. Our greyhounds simply need someone who can provide:⁠
⁠
🐾 Patience and understanding⁠
🐾 Gentle encouragement and reassurance⁠
🐾 A safe, secure and comfortable home⁠
🐾 Time to settle into a new routine⁠
🐾 Plenty of kindness and affection⁠
⁠
As incoming greyhounds need time in care before their suitability can be assessed, they cannot initially be placed in homes with cats or small dogs.⁠

Foster carers play an incredibly important role in helping retired racing greyhounds transition into pet life and preparing them for their future homes.⁠

We have retired racing greyhounds ready to begin their transition into pet life, but we need more foster carers to welcome them into their homes.

For many greyhounds, foster care may be their first experience living inside a home. Everyday things such as televisions, stairs, slippery floors, household appliances and new routines can take some time to understand.

With patience, gentle guidance and a consistent routine, you can help a retired greyhound settle in and learn all about life as a much-loved family pet.

Our foster carers provide:

🐾 A safe and secure home
🐾 Patience while their greyhound adjusts
🐾 Gentle encouragement through new experiences
🐾 A comfortable place to rest
🐾 Kindness, reassurance and a consistent routine

Previous greyhound experience is not required. You simply need a willingness to learn, an understanding that settling in takes time and plenty of love to give. Rescues4Pets will support you throughout the fostering journey.
