Well the rain is truly here!
If your K9 buddy is saying, “No way am I going outside in this weather!” then please forgive them for doing their business inside the house.
Trust me when I say it won’t become a habit. They really did try their best to hold it in, but sometimes even the most well trained dogs have their limits!

I saw one of my awesome past clients today, and he has started a little sideline business that I think deserves a shout-out!

Good training is not about changing who your dog is, It is about helping them be the best version of themselves.
This Schnauzer boy has a BIG personality and even bigger emotions. He is spunky, full of character, has an awesome recall, and absolutely nails his everyday requests.
He is also loved to the moon and back, and his humans would do anything for him. ❤️
His needs are met, he is understood, and he is allowed to be the dog he is.
Because good training is not about creating a perfectly behaved dog who never makes a fuss, never has an opinion, or never shows emotion.
It is about building communication, understanding, and skills that help our dogs navigate the world while still being their wonderfully unique selves.
We don’t need to suppress a dog’s personality to teach them skills. We need to understand the dog in front of us.
Big feelings, big personalities, and all that is what makes them who they are. ❤️

Digging is a totally normal dog behaviour!
Dogs dig for all sorts of reasons, to explore, stay cool, burn energy, or simply because it’s fun! 🐾
If you would rather they didn’t landscape their very own backyard why not give them a digging pit of their very own?
Fill it with sand or soil, hide a few toys or treats, and encourage them to dig there instead!
Let them be a dog, let them dig, just give them the right place to do it!

Barking is a natural form of communication for dogs. It is one of the ways they express themselves, just as we use words to communicate.
Dogs bark for many reasons:
To alert us to something unusual.
To express excitement or frustration.
To seek attention or initiate play.
When feeling anxious, uncertain or afraid.
To communicate with other dogs.
To express boredom or unmet needs.
As our understanding of dog behaviour evolves, we are learning that barking is not simply a bad habit that needs to be stopped. It is communication that deserves to be understood.
Our dogs should be allowed to bark at times, alerting us to something, greeting a friend or expressing excitement are normal dog behaviours. Expecting a dog to be silent all the time is like expecting humans never to speak!
Learn to recognise why the dog is barking, respond to their needs and help them settle when barking becomes excessive or distressing.
We do not need to silence every bark. We need to listen, understand and guide our dogs with patience and compassion.
A dog who is understood is a dog who can be better supported.
Remember behaviour is always contextual.

🐾 It's been an interesting day!
Today I had the pleasure of working with some beautiful dogs who have come such a long way over the past few weeks. They still have a way to go, but they are getting there, one step at a time, and that's what matters.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and we need to remember that relationships of any kind are a journey. Building trust, understanding and confidence takes time, patience and consistency.
As a dog trainer, I will never use aversive tools such as anti-barking collars, check chains or slip leads to correct or control a dog. I don't even feel the need to say “no” to a dog.
I believe dogs deserve to be understood, not intimidated. Their behaviour is communication, and it is our job to listen, learn and interact with them in ways they understand.
We can teach without fear, and intimidation, and build relationships through trust.
When you become reactive, you lose control of your own emotions. True progress comes from staying calm, being patient and meeting each dog where they are.
Every little step forward matters. Celebrate the progress, trust the process and remember that we are all on a journey.
Humans give yourselves grace, forgive yourselves for the days that feel hard, and have faith that, with time, patience and consistency, things will come together. Remember, growth is a journey, not a race, be kind to yourselves.
