THIS IS ONE OF THE HARDEST POSTS I HAVE EVER HAD TO WRITE. ❤️🐾
With speculation circulating about recent events at Barambah Retreat, I want to clarify what happened.
After we advised of plans to move back onto the property to oversee repairs and animal care, four team members voluntarily resigned on the same day. No one was dismissed, terminated, forced to leave or asked to resign.
Although we had extended notice regarding our plans, the resignations occurred without a handover period, resulting in an unexpected and significant burden on our family at a time when the welfare of dozens of animals depended on continuity of care.
Suddenly, we were caring for more than 30 boarding dogs and cats, along with our rescue animals, while rebuilding an entire team.
There was no pause button. The animals still needed food, medication, exercise, clean spaces and care. We were exhausted, but walking away was never an option.
We postponed or cancelled some bookings. To every family affected, I am genuinely sorry. Continuing without the staff needed to maintain our standards would have been irresponsible.
We chose animal welfare over profit.
During this time, my daughter Niki and I were told to “go back to India.” Those words hurt deeply, but they do not represent the South Burnett community that has overwhelmingly shown us kindness.
Australia is my home. South Burnett is where we are building a future dedicated to animal welfare.
Animals do not care where someone was born. They care about who feeds them, comforts them and refuses to give up on them.
Barambah Retreat is rebuilding. We are recruiting and training a new team, with services returning progressively. Pawkala Animal Welfare will continue rescuing and protecting vulnerable animals.
To everyone who supported us, thank you.
We will learn and grow, but we will never walk away from the animals that need us.
They do not care where we came from. They only care that somebody came for them.
