Meet Nova. 🖤

The girl behind Von Mikarch, and hopefully, our next litter.

Nova has recently been mated, but this isn’t a new combination for us. We’ve chosen to repeat the pairing that produced her first litter last year.

And now we’ve had the opportunity to watch those puppies grow.

Bane, the male from the litter, is now 12 months old and developing as a Corrections working-dog prospect.

His sisters have taken a different path, growing into beautiful family dogs in Brisbane and Perth.

Same genetics. Different roles.

For us, that’s an important part of breeding German Shepherds. We want capable, confident dogs with the attributes to work, but also dogs that can be matched appropriately to the life and role in front of them.

So when it came time to consider Nova’s next litter, there was a very good reason we chose to return to this pairing.

We’ve already seen what it can produce.

Now we wait. 🤞

Nova’s pregnancy scan is booked for 2 October.

If confirmed, puppies are expected around 24 October.

A little something has been happening behind the scenes at Von Mikarch… 👀

Nova has been mated, and we’re now waiting for her upcoming scan to find out whether we’ll be welcoming a very special litter.

This mating has been selected with purpose, with working ability, temperament and the qualities we value in a German Shepherd firmly in mind.

Nothing confirmed just yet… but if you’ve been thinking about adding a working-line German Shepherd to your life, you may want to keep an eye on this page.

More on Nova, the sire and the pairing to come.

Dog aggression doesn’t start and end with the dog.

Rufus joined us with his owners for a one-on-one session, with dog aggression being their major concern.

In little over an hour, Matt worked through what was happening, how Rufus was responding, and importantly, what his owners could do differently.

With 18 years of experience working and training dogs, Matt’s approach isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about introducing structure, clear communication and consistency, then giving owners practical tools they can continue using long after the session is finished.

For Rufus, that meant working on engagement, boundaries and how to manage his behaviour around other dogs, while helping his owners better understand what they were seeing at the other end of the lead.

The right structure can completely change the direction you’re heading. 🐾

This is what drive looks like. 🔥
One of our current development dogs in a session with Matt — 16 years as a QPS K9 handler, and this is how he builds them from the ground up.

It’s not about commands. It’s about relationship, reward, and reading the dog in front of you. Every session at this stage is an investment in the working dog they’re going to become.
