Today’s transformation: Taika 🦁✨
Taika came in today for his very first groom — and what a journey it was. His whole body was heavily matted, which can be really uncomfortable and even painful for cats, especially long-haired breeds like Ragdolls. So the safest and kindest option for him was a full lion cut shave.
At XMMO, we always follow a fear-free, low-stress approach. That means we don’t rush the process. We take our time, read each cat’s body language, and move at their pace to make sure they feel as safe and comfortable as possible throughout the groom. Taika needed a little extra time at the beginning to settle in, but once he relaxed, he handled everything so well.
For a first-timer, Taika was incredibly brave. You can see at the start he wasn’t too sure what was going on (completely normal), but with calm handling and slow introductions to each step, he gradually built trust and allowed us to work through the coat safely.
Step by step, we gently worked through the shave, removing all the matting and giving his skin a fresh start again. No rushing, no stress — just patience and care.
Once the coat was off, we moved into a full wash — cleansing, calming, and making sure his skin was clean and healthy underneath all that compacted fur. The difference after the bath? Completely refreshed.
We finished him off with a clean, balanced lion cut — neat body, soft mane, and that signature tail. Such a satisfying result, but more importantly, Taika is now comfortable again.
Matting like this doesn’t happen overnight. For long-haired cats like Taika, regular grooming is essential. We always recommend grooming every 6–8 weeks to prevent matting, maintain coat health, and avoid the need for a full shave like this.
Taika, you did amazing today. First groom, big transformation, and handled it like a champ 🤍
