Just a little snapshot of some of recent clients.
From baby prepping dogs to building confident pups. No session is ever the same.

Playing is often overlooked by puppy parents and playfulness regularly gets accidentally punished (the good old “I got the shoe, chase me!” game or pulling on clothing).
Play should be an important part of your puppy’s development and should take priority over obedience. Building an engaged and confident dog comes first for me. The obedience is an easy add on later.
I’ve yet to meet a dog who can resist the wildhunde Zoom and Chase!

Dawn hasn’t had the best start in life but things are looking up for her. ☺️

Wh***ey the GSD/Malinois is in a pet home and we’ve been working on ensuring his biological needs are met. While he is very loved, this really isn’t enough so his wonderful owner has engaged me to help them both build confidence in each other. Yesterday was our second session and I brought Pickle along to work on his reactivity to dogs.
First, we worked on what we want him to do when we see a dog. Practicing the technique and getting muscle memory is a super important part for this duo.
50m away Wh***ey was blowing up at Pickle with hackles up. Slowly we closed the gap and built their confidence in each other. While this isn’t “real life” it gives them repetitions for muscle memory.
Their confidence grew so much in this session and they overcame it together. 🥰

How you reward your dog should really be the dog’s choice. I’ve used a TONNE of food for rewarding Pickle over the years but over the weekend we went to a new park with him. I called him to front to check his ears were working - I knew he was super keen to get back to exploring so instead of giving him a food reward, I released him back to doing what he wanted. I had food with me too but the fact he trotted off when I said “free” shows that he didn’t want food in that situation.

Planning? Pregnant? Got a baby?
Here’s the number 1 thing I’d work on.

On the weekend, I packed up a toddler and 9 week old baby to go to trial.
I hadn’t planned on trialling Pickle but about 2 weeks before, I thought I’d give it a shot and see how we go. Here’s our leash communication section which went about 100 times better than I expected 😂
What did we need to do?
1. Greet 3 people without pulling, jumping or being an idiot.
2. Walk around 2 items in a figure 8 three times while a person is trying to distract Pickle. Again, no pulling or tension on the leash. All done on a plain flat collar.
He nailed it.

Often when we get our cute little puppies, we treat them like babies. Which is right and wrong. They are babies so we need to make sure we have realistic expectations for them in terms of toilet training, attention span etc. But often we let these little babies have too much freedom too soon and we struggle later with what we see as “problem behaviours”. Things that could have been avoided with correct management in those early days. Management, play and relationship are key for success with training once your puppy matures a bit.
