GAP NSW

GAP NSW The Greyhound Adoption Program (NSW), Inc. is a non-profit organisation which is dedicated to the welfare of Greyhounds. And they don't need a big back yard.

Our primary purpose is to find permanent loving homes for these beautiful hounds. The Greyhound Adoption Program of NSW Inc (GAP NSW) is a volunteer-run charity that has been in existence since 1998, working to educate the public on the benefits and care of Greyhounds, and their suitability as companions. We finance our activities from donations and membership, and are not connected to or receive

any money from racing bodies. Greyhounds are delightful dogs - they are clean, quiet, don't shed a lot, don't require a lot of exercise, and tend to sleep unless something exciting is happening. They are usually good with children, being very calm and tolerant (although children should not be left unsupervised with any dog). They are usually extremely healthy, having few inherited diseases compared to other breeds. Greyhounds coming into GAP NSW are tested for their suitability to live as a pet. Successful Greyhounds are then desexed, and spend time in a foster home learning all about strange things like stairs, vacuum cleaners, sliding glass doors, smooth floors and other normal domestic situations that are initially quite strange to them. Greyhounds are suited to a range of family situations. From young singles, young couples, families with children and retirees. Some of our Greys live in flats/units. Greyhounds are connoisseurs of comfort. They like nothing more than finding the comfiest spot in the house and curling up for a snooze. They are lounge lizards in a racing costume! (Mind you GAP does not condone Greyhounds using human furniture.) Like to know more? Perhaps you would like to become a foster carer? Or get up close and personal with a Greyhound? Miss Lucy has had fun recently travelling around Sydney and attempting a few more Ultimate scent work searches. No more qualifications but gaining experience, confidence and stamina with each one. Last Saturday at the Hills Dog Club trial she qualified in a Masters Exteriors search. In the Ultimate level search she found all the hides in the search area (there were 6) & then found an "extra" one for good measure. ☺️

Since our last post Lucy has competed in two Ultimate level Scent Work trials. On 17th April at the Dobermann Club trial (North Richmond) she found all 5 hides in the search area, but with about 30 seconds left on the clock she false alerted on a blank container! So no qualifications that night, but was very pleased with her effort.
Today at the Hills Dog Club trial (Castle Hill) we gained our first qualification in Ultimate & topped it off by taking out first place from 23 entries. Eight hides (unknown to competitors) & a seven minute time limit. She had a celebratory pig's ear when she got home. Very proud of this cheeky little girl who loves her sniffing game so much. 🩷

Today we pause to honor and remember all of the courageous men and women that so bravely served our country. To all the animals that stood by them in the darkest of days providing loyalty and comfort, we thank you.

APRIL MARKS A YEAR OF NASH WAITING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME and yet he has so much to offer!

Nash is such a handsome and social boy who has adapted very well to life as a pet. He has previously spent some time living with a pair of Mini Foxies and other Greyhounds.

He has a big check list of positives, here are a few Nash loves
- all food
- car rides
-sleeping through the night
-getting out and about
-meeting new people
- pats and just laying by your feet

Due to him being a social butterfly, Nash doesn't like to be left outside on his own for long periods and may bark. HOWEVER, he is very well behaved inside so would thrive with an indoor lifestyle.
Nash would make a great companion for a single, couple or family (children 10 years plus) who are willing to include him into their daily activities.

Well, Lucy has finally broken the drought in her Masters Interiors searches after qualifying on Saturday at the All Stars Scent Work trial at Castle Hill. It has only taken us 13 attempts!!
In the meantime, she has also taken a couple of forays into Ultimate level competition in the past few weeks. The first was a little disappointing as it was a very hot & humid day & she was understandably less than enthusiastic.
In her second Ultimate (night) trial she found 5 of the 6 hides in the search area which we were very pleased about. No dogs (out of the 24 teams) qualified in this search. In Ultimate there are an unknown number of hides (between 3 and 10) & a time limit set by the judge on the day.
