Yesterday I was reminded how lucky we are to have the incredible wildlife carers and volunteers who quietly do some of the hardest, most compassionate work imaginable.

A friend reached out about an injured bat in her backyard. I reminded her not to touch it (as bats can carry Lyssavirus, which is dangerous to humans), and I contacted one of the amazing wildlife volunteers I know. Within an hour, a dedicated bat carer was on their way to rescue this little soul.

These carers give so much — their time, their own money, and their hearts — to care for our native wildlife. They are often unseen, but their impact is immense.

I’d love to give back in a small way by throwing a beautiful Christmas celebration in their honour, and distributing any remaining funds directly to them as a token of gratitude.

So, I’ve created a GoFundMe to make this happen. If you’ve ever felt grateful for the people who show up for our injured and orphaned wildlife — please consider contributing. Every dollar will go straight toward showing them the love they deserve.

🌿 Fortnightly Reflection — Just Being There

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for someone is simply be there.
In my work, I’m often invited into homes during some of life’s hardest moments — when families have to make difficult choices about their beloved pets. It’s never easy, but it’s always an honour.

To be trusted to hold space for another person’s grief, love, and courage is such a profound gift. And every time, it reminds me how true it is that it’s better to give than to receive — because there is deep joy in simply being that person for someone else.

Imagine the ripple effect if we each took a moment to truly be there for another person. It would change everything. 💛

🌿 Fortnightly Reflection — Grace on the Water

I paused at the public pier today and watched a small group of pelicans gathered peacefully in the shallows. There was something so grounding about their calm presence — unhurried, content, simply part of the rhythm of the day.

It reminded me how grateful I am to have the flexibility to visit families and their pets in their own homes — to work in a way that allows space for balance, nature, and connection.

Sometimes the best reminder to slow down comes from just watching the world move at its own pace.

Late last year, I completed a course in palliative care for animals—and it truly changed the way I practice. As vets, we’re trained to treat and diagnose, but when treatment is no longer an option, we’re often left without a clear path to guide pets and their people through the final stages with care and clarity.

Since doing the course, supporting pets and their families through this sacred time has become a real passion of mine. I’ve helped dozens of beloved animals cross the Rainbow Bridge with dignity, and I’ve seen the difference it makes when owners feel empowered and supported, not overwhelmed or lost.
