🚨 STOP ASKING REACTIVE DOGS TO “JUST GET CLOSER.”

Today’s session with Murphy 🐾🤍

Murphy is reactive towards other dogs, so instead of pushing him closer, we worked within his threshold — the distance where he can still think, learn and stay calm.

😌 He stays happy and relaxed

THAT is successful reactivity training.

We don’t need to trigger the reaction to make progress. We create safe, successful experiences and gradually build from there. 🐶✨

Texan was one of the first dogs I worked with when I first started up my training business, over a year ago.
When I met him, he was only a teeny tiny puppy that was rescued by his amazing family, Paul and Vicki.
When we started his training journey, Tex was a damaged, very nervous and anxious, extremely scared of life from his rough start, to resulting into a lead reactive puppy at only just a few months old.
Ive had the pleasure of working with Texan every fortnight for over a year now, and have grown quite attached to this goof ball 😆
He has come such a long way in his training journey.
I still can’t believe that the scared pup that we started with is now at the stage where we can be off lead, non reactive and absolutely confident and thriving.
It just goes to show that consistency is truly the key and if you put the work into your dog, your training goals can be reached.
Texan will be a face that pops up on my page quite regularly, because his hard work and consistency, really does deserve the recognition!
Cases like this, is exactly why I love my job!

Today I met Nova and her owners!

The first clip is before training. The second and third clips are after just one session.

During our session we introduced more suitable walking equipment and worked on engagement and focus to encourage better lead manners. Instead of constantly pulling forward, Nova began checking in with her owners and making better choices throughout the walk.

Every dog is different, and this is just the first step, but it’s a fantastic example of how small changes and the right training approach can make a big difference.

We definitely have some more work to do with walking and some reactive issues, but I think this was a great start and a successful first session ✨🐾

✨ Why Does This “Check-In” Matter? 🐾

One of the most valuable skills you can teach your dog isn’t just to walk nicely on a lead, it’s to choose to pay attention to you.

In this video, you’ll see Texan regularly checking in with me throughout our walk. 👀🐶

A check-in is when your dog voluntarily looks back at you without being asked. It’s a sign they’re staying mentally connected, even with distractions around them.

Why is this important?

✔️ Makes loose lead walking easier
✔️ Helps prevent pulling and lunging
✔️ Improves recall and responsiveness
✔️ Gives your dog confidence in new environments

Instead of your dog making every decision on the walk, they’re learning that you’re worth paying attention to. That connection is the foundation for reliable training.

Remember—focus isn’t forced, it’s built through consistency, positive reinforcement, and making yourself the most rewarding thing in your dog’s environment. 💛🐾

🐾 Ace’s First Puppy Session! 🐾

Today I had the pleasure of working with 15-week-old German Shorthaired Pointer, Ace! 🐶

One of the key skills we introduced was a focus command — teaching Ace to check in with his owners and give them his attention, even when there are distractions around him.

Focus is the foundation for so many important behaviours, including recall, loose lead walking, impulse control, and overall obedience. When your dog learns that paying attention to you is rewarding, training becomes so much easier and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Ace did an amazing job and showed just how clever and eager to learn he is! 🌟

I can’t wait to see his confidence and skills continue to grow over the coming weeks! 🧡🩵

Texan was my first puppy client one year ago!
He has come such a long way from the nervous, reactive rescue pup who was never properly socialised or lead trained, to now able to do some off lead work 🙏
Still have a little work to do adding in some distractions, but I’m so happy with his progress 💙🧡
