Happy Father's Day, Dad!

Thanks for teaching me to stick to my own sensibilities and to show compassion for all living things. There is no question where I got my love of the wild from.

Threadgold Veterinary Services is a proud partner of Safe Pets Safe Families and sponsor of the Community Vet Van.

Thanks to Safe Pets Safe Families - Keeping people & pets together and SPSF Community Vet Van for the essential work that you do, and thank you for allowing our vets and nurses to spend some of their work week out in the community, helping where it makes the biggest difference.

Good veterinary care isn’t about spending the most.

It’s about making every dollar you do spend work as hard as possible for your pet.

That is one of the founding principles of Threadgold Veterinary Services.

We are not a ā€œbudget veterinary serviceā€.

We are a veterinary service that respects your budget, and treats it as a genuine part of the clinical picture.

Every household has limits. Those limits do not reflect how much you love your pet, and they should never be a source of embarrassment or judgement.

Our job is not to ignore those limits and present a theoretically perfect plan that cannot realistically happen.

Our job is to understand what is available, explain the options honestly and use our clinical judgement to achieve the most useful care possible within it.

That might mean:

• Prioritising your pet’s immediate comfort and safety
• Choosing the test most likely to change what we do
• Staging investigations rather than exhausting the budget at once
• Using an equally effective, more economical medication
• Preserving enough money for treatment and follow-up care
• Building a long-term plan that can actually be continued

This is not cutting corners.

It is careful clinical prioritisation.

The most expensive plan is not automatically the best plan. A ā€œgold-standardā€ plan on paper is of little value if it cannot be started, completed or sustained.

The real goal is the best achievable outcome for that animal, in that household, in real life.

This principle also shapes the way we price our services.

Our standard home visit is $170. That brings an experienced veterinarian to your home and allows up to 45 minutes with you and your pet.

We believe our income should come openly from providing veterinary care; from our time, travel, clinical judgement, communication and ongoing professional responsibility.

Not from keeping the initial fee artificially low and recovering the profit later through the medications your pet needs.

At TVS, medications are tools - not profit centres.

We source them as economically as we reasonably can without compromising quality. When an equivalent generic is clinically appropriate, we will use it rather than insisting upon a more expensive veterinary-branded product.

We then add a 16% cost-recovery buffer to the purchase price. This accounts for freight, price fluctuations, storage, expiry and unavoidable wastage.

There is also a $9 dispensing fee per item, covering the professional work and legal responsibility involved in checking the medication and dose, preparing and labelling it correctly, updating the medical record and explaining how to use it safely.

That’s it.

If an appropriate medication can be obtained more economically elsewhere, we will tell you. External prescriptions are available where appropriate because prescribing a treatment should not oblige you to purchase it from us.

The purpose of this model is not to produce the smallest possible invoice at any cost.

It is to remove unnecessary costs, make the necessary ones clear and preserve as much of your pet-care budget as possible for the things that will genuinely improve their welfare.

Veterinary care has real costs. Our veterinarians and nurses deserve fair wages, medicines must be handled properly, and the service must remain financially sustainable if it is going to continue helping people.

But every cost should be clear, fair and defensible.

No judgement. No pressure. No bill shock.

Just honest veterinary advice and a practical plan designed to make your available budget do the most possible good for your pet.

That isn’t ā€œbudget veterinary medicineā€.

It is responsible veterinary medicine.

Threadgold Veterinary Services is about genuine, lasting relationships with pets and their families.

Our standard visit allows for up to 45 minutes with you and your pet, with room to extend when needed.

Before any vetty stuff happens we sit and have a good chat with you while taking the time to observe your pet in their own environment. We hear all about them and their place in your family, all about their history and your insight into their needs.

Before we leave we make sure that everyone involved understands what's happening and what the next steps will be. We hear from your entire family and explain things to them directly so that you don't have to, giving everyone room to process and to be heard.

The care doesn't end there. With experienced veterinary nurses on the other end of the line, we keep it easy to seek follow up advice if you are uncertain in the time after your appointment.

Text messaging is welcome for those who prefer it, and so that you can send us photo progress updates easily. (And other pet pics).

Not sure if something is really an issue worth worrying about? Better safe than sorry. We are here to help.

Care built on connection.
It's mobile veterinary care that fits real life.

Threadgold Veterinary Services is what my conscience needs veterinary medicine to be.

Long visits. A cup of tea or coffee. Thorough conversations. Seeing the pets in their own environment. Solving problems in partnership with our clients. Staying until we are really at the bottom of things. Following up the next day to make sure things are ok.

We are for the clients who feel unheard or misunderstood. For the pets who aren't themselves until they get to know the person in front of them. For the client and the pets alike who are uncomfortable out of their own environment. For the needs of the community.

We are for the veterinarians who care a little bit too much. For the veterinarians who value open communication and lasting client relationships. For the veterinarians who are fatigued and discenchanted with rapid clinic consults, or can't seem to finish on time.

We are doing things differently. We are doing things the way all of us deserve. With real people and real pets at the heart of every decision.

I've got lots to share with you all, but the big announcements really need their own posts, so stay tuned as I remove the filter a bit this week and tell you how we are putting our profits where our mouth is and enacting real change.

Straight facts šŸ™

One of the biggest misconceptions about mobile veterinary care is that you "can't do as much" as a GP clinic can 🐾

The reality? For the vast majority of pets and farm animals I can provide consultations, health checks, vaccinations, ongoing medications, diagnostics, pathology, chronic disease management, arthritis management, palliative care and much more — all from the comfort of your own home 🩺

The only things I generally can't do are invasive surgical procedures and intensive care hospitalisation ā¤ļø

And here's the thing... If your pet suddenly needs emergency surgery, overnight monitoring or intensive care, your local suburban GP clinic will be referring you to a veterinary hospital or referral clinic too šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Most general practice clinics aren't staffed or equipped for 24-hour intensive care or complex surgery šŸ’‰

Having owned a bricks and mortar clinic, and now operating a fully mobile veterinary clinic, I have seen both sides.....And truthfully, if your pet can receive the same veterinary expertise, diagnostic workups, medications and the same ongoing care without the stress of travelling, sitting in a waiting room or being surrounded by unfamiliar animals...

Maybe the question isn't "Why choose a mobile vet?"
Maybe the question is: "Why go into a clinic?" šŸ‘

Attention please everyone.

This is the biggest announcement I’ve made in my professional life.

A little while ago, I started this small mobile service to give myself space to know my clients, understand their pets, and take care of my patients in a way that felt honest, personal and sustainable for me.

I thought I was creating a small space for that way of working. I have been genuinely blown away to realise that the people who wanted that kind of care were everywhere.

Dr Tobias began as a very personal thing: one vet, one car, a lot of conversations, and a hope that I could provide care for pets and families in a way that felt thoughtful, honest, clear and genuinely useful.

I expected it to stay small. I thought it might take time for people to understand what I was trying to do.

Instead, the response has been warmer, kinder and more encouraging than I ever expected.

That support has meant more than I can properly explain. Every booking, recommendation, review, kind message and word of encouragement has helped turn something uncertain into something real.

It has also brought me to a choice. I could close my books and keep this as something small and manageable, or I could honour the trust people have placed in me by building something capable of helping more families.

I’ve chosen to build.

Threadgold Veterinary Services is the next chapter of that work: a proper home for the service, and eventually a team built around the same values that started it.

The Dr Tobias voice is not going anywhere. I’ll still be explaining things, sharing thoughts, advocating for pets and families, and probably writing posts that are longer than recommended.

But the new TVS page is where the service itself will live from now on: bookings, updates, resources, team news, and the growth of the business from here.

Thank you for helping this become real. I’m very grateful, and very excited for what comes next.

Thank you mum for teaching me that compassion doesn’t have to come at the cost of yourself, and that love and empathy can be sustainable when they’re grounded in care, wisdom, and gentleness.

I am endlessly grateful for you today and always.

Happy Mother's Day
