This World Rabies Day, we’re sharing an important reminder: rabies is preventable. Caring for our pets helps protect the people around them, too.

Keep your pet’s rabies vaccination up to date, supervise them outdoors and keep a safe distance from unfamiliar animals, even when they appear friendly.

If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water and seek medical care immediately. If your pet is bitten or scratched, contact your veterinarian promptly. Don’t wait for symptoms.

Today’s small but important action: check your pet’s vaccination record. 💗

Not sure if it can wait until morning? 🐾

Some symptoms should never be ignored. If your pet collapses, becomes unresponsive, is struggling to breathe, cannot stand, has suffered major trauma or has severe uncontrolled bleeding, call immediately.

And sometimes, it is not that obvious. A sudden change in behaviour, movement, breathing, eating or general condition can still be a reason to contact the clinic. You do not have to decide how serious it is on your own.
