Gosh has it been 3 weeks and no Little Prince update? He’s been doing so well, almost ready for his second surgery. What was his problem? His left kneecap kept slipping out when he was a puppy. We tried to schedule a corrective surgery early on but he had other more significant health problems to address 😭. As he grew the groove in the femur never developed (no knee cap to help it form) and the pull of the thigh muscle distorted his whole leg so it grew inwards like a banana. His right leg was fine, but in the last couple of months has had the kneecap start doing the same thing. MPL (medial luxating patella) is common in little dogs and early intervention is KEY! Keeping the little fellow exercise restricted is very difficult! He just wants to run and play

🐾 What is Elbow Dysplasia? 🐾

Elbow dysplasia is a common developmental joint condition in dogs. It occurs when the elbow joint doesn’t fit together properly, leading to:

- Inflammation and pain of the elbows
- Abnormal early wear of the joint

Which dogs are affected?
Elbow dysplasia is most commonly seen in large and giant breeds, such as:
• Labradors
• Bernese mountain dogs
• Rottweilers

It usually develops during growth but signs can appear at any age. Elbow dysplasia can result in early arthritis.

Signs to look out for:
🐾 Front leg lameness (often intermittent at first)
🐾 Stiffness, especially after rest

Some dogs show only subtle signs and may still seem otherwise well.

What should you do?
If you notice any limping or stiffness, it’s worth having your dog assessed. Early diagnosis allows for:
✔️ Better pain management
✔️ More treatment options
✔️ Improved long-term comfort and mobility

Your dog may not show obvious pain — but changes in movement are often the first sign something isn’t right.
